Course of action

The assault

The hippogryph roost of Auberdine.

The attack happened not soon after the Darkshore Research and Purification Initiative have settled down in Auberdine.

During dusk, a group of marauding death knights stormed the city, slaughtering the patrolling sentinels with ease. From there, they moved further deep into the village. Apparently, they were not committed to their act, since many defenders said the abominations ignored them right after tossing them aside their path, mortally wounded. It seemed as if they treated the attack as some sort of sport or exercise.

Soon, however, a group of elite sentinels lead by Raeliah, reinforced by druids of the Circle, faced the death knights, halting them in their tracks. After a short clash, the beasts withdrew back into the forest. They have been not seen ever again.

The funeral

The dead were buried at the graveyard north of town, near the ruins of Bashal'Aran.

After the attack, survivors gathered the corpses under the hippogryph stand. A burdensome task, since many adventurers, witnessing the attack, complained about kaldorei mistrust of raised death knights.

Many of them wanted to prove a point saying that the Alliance, whose members the night elves are part of, also employ their own fallen kin as the Knights of the Ebon Blade. As a result, the workforce was lessened by about half, as a large verbal struggle broke out. It took few druids and a priestess to stop the peoples from repeating the manslaughter on each other.

In the end, the deceased were covered buried mid-way in sand and sprinkled with sea salt for preservation. Afterwards, they were counted and checked. It was no trouble to identify who has passed away. All the time, a priestess and a small group of worshipers gathered unto the moonwell to beg Elune for her guidance. After a final check, a group of sentinels was dispatched to carry the corpses over to the northern graveyard.

They were immediately joined by druid representatives of the Initiative, a priestess and many of the townsfolk. They walked through the forest in utmost silence, only the adept singing faint songs to the Moon Goddess. Having arrived, the moon was beginning to emerge from beyond the horizon. In this moment, the elves quickly dug open the soil and gently lowered each body into it's own separate grave. The whole ceremony ended when the moon rose just above the owl ancient statue. Druids planted small seeds above each mound, for them to sprout as a symbol of renewal of life. The reminder of the night was spent in solemn mourning.
