Origin
The Delanin familly is ancient, hailing back to the days long before the sundering. It's exact origins are completelly lost in the mists of time. But variouss theories about it's strange form exist. All tend to go well over the dinner table with a glass of wine. Since most of these seem utterly ridicullous and unfathomable.
The trollish theory
By the far the least favorite origin myth of the familly. Where it's believed it's the simply the name of the matron of patron of the familly of dark trolls that would 'supposedly' have changed into current day night elves. Some of the research types in the Delanin familly tried to find a common name or speech in the ancient zandali language that might sound alike to the word 'Delanin'. The lack of any positive results can be clearly interpreted as disproving this theory.
Older language theory
Other scholar-types within the familly believe it's simply a word from a language or dialect within the Night Elven race that fell out of fashion and were forgotten over the years. Due the lack of any sort of material on this. This theory cannot be proven or disproven. However, it remains the most likelly and sensible of all stories about the origin of the Delanin familly.
Dehmarien theory
Another likelly theory is that 'Delanin' is the poorly passed on version of the word 'Dehmarien'. Which was the callname for the citizens of one of the earliest towns in Kaldorei history. This would mean that the Delanin's arent a single familly, but rather originate from a large group of families. The age and wide-spread nature of the name in current days could easilly be explained by this theory. Which is why it's the one where most attention is given to.
Other
Numerous other theories about the origin of the familly name exist. From the silly to the trully deranged and onto the downright stupid. From given by Elune herself to the insane spoutings of a passing kobold. To current day members of the familly, all these theories are nothing more but to stories to have a laugh over. After all, what trully matters is the present, not the past.

Like it's age and obscurity, the Delanin familly is also known for some of it's traditions.
Traits
The 'Delanin' familly is known for producing children who are naturally more aware of their surroundings. Pay more attention to details and spot mistakes easilly. As such, many Delanins grow up to be hunters or craftsmen. Though there's also a trend within the familly for certain clumsiness. As some indivuals are sometimes born with thicker than average fingers, causing them to be clumsy.
Professions
As mentioned, 'Delanins' have a tendency to be better at hunting and crafting, and of such, a lot of the females tend to become sentinels. Very few 'Delanins' seek out a calling in the sisterhood. This is often written off as being due to the increased awareness, they have less desire to explain away the mysteries of the world and more likelly to try and find out what it is themselves. Males of the familly tend to become craftsmen and researchers. There's a higher than average amount of druids in the familly, but it's not a significant amount.

Nardenar Delanin
Eldest child and brother to three sisters. Nardenar was training as a druid of the circle, untill an expedition of druids he was with vanished. Said expedition was sent to the wailing caverns. Rumours go that most druids were either killed or turned into the nightmare corrupted druids of the fang. Regardless, no living proof of Nardenar has been found.
Ayra Lanyra Delanin
Second child and twin sister to her non-identical twin "Sehlis". Lanyra is currently training under Do Dennet as his Thero. She takes care of the Darkshore Research and Purification Initiative in his latest absence.
Sehlis Delanin
Third child and twin sister to her non-identical twin "Lanyra". Sehlis trained under Do Dennet, but has vanished recently. She has been spotted in the great forests, but no contact was made. She is presumed lost.
Xythil Delanin
Youngest of four, and the only one not to take up the druidic profession. She was sent to the sisterhood when she came of age, and is training to be a priestress of Elune despite several incidents. When not at the temple, she often travels to Auberdine to stay with her sister.
