Background

Early life

Ranwel was the second of three children, born in the period of peace following the War of the Ancients.

Careful reading of the stars had revealed that he was to become an artisan, and thus took up apprenticeship in wood carving. He was not a shining talent and never achieved much fame. His frustration eventually caused him to finally quit his apprenticeship and left him wandering the land as a solitary nomad.

Some hundred years later he found some satisfaction in running a small vessel along the western coast of Kalimdor transporting simple goods. The very underdeveloped shipping industry had much use for his skills in, ironically enough, wood carving. He achieved something of a minor heroic status among the fishermen after the tale of him surviving the notorious "Southern Saber Winds" with makeshift fixes to the ship's hull.

His shipping career was made short after an accident left his ship along with his belongings lost at sea along with several crewmen. The ship was never seen, and neither were the crewmen.

Nomad again

Ranwel left his shipping career of several hundred years, broken over the loss of his crew he felt himself incompetent and fled to the uninhibited forests again living as a solitary nomad.

In his delirious fugue he went from place to place. For the first year he had kept a journal. By the second he did not want to write another thing in it instead writing one single line: "I can no longer write until I learn what I should write about."

He was spotted approximately 700 years later in a crudely made deerskin outfit starved and dying of hypothermia in Winterspring by a patrolling Sentinel from the nearby Starfall Village. He was brought to the nearby Sentinel outpost where he spent the next week recovering.

An owl message was dispatched with his glyph, a sail and a fish. The next month, his sister showed up urging him to return to Auberdine. He refused, and an argument broke following which neither party spoke to the other to this day.

The Third War

Ranwel's condition deteriorated over time. As the war broke he was transferred to the makeshift sick ward at Moonglade for expert care and due to the Sentinels having to improve their readiness.

His days were spent reading the many books the library had to offer, practicing carving wooden figurines to little success and conversation with the druids. In the ward, Ranwel had even met part-time worker Dennet and found him to be "obsessive, but friendly enough". They were on friendly terms, mostly over games of Ala'shanri.

Although his caretakers were skeptical of his recovery, he recovered some time prior to the conclusion of the war. As his condition improved he began feeling the guilt of his inaction during the war. He sought repentance and picked up his journal, to finally find his position in the world and his right path in life as he found solace with the goddess and for once - place within the order.

After the Third War

Ranwel's studies of the faith of Elune, as he believes, changed him forever. He is rarely seen outside of Darnassus, where he studies texts, meditates and consults with the other priestesses. Though he seems well cultured, there is still the air of untamed nature about him.
