Twin Daughters of Cenarius

Both of the heroines of the myth were born as many daughters of Cenarius. However, these two saw the light of the world simultaneously.

Whereas Aessina is currently the well-fabled spirit, whose shrine currently rests in Ashenvale, Ressina is preety much forgotten, only mentioned in this legend. Her existance, however, is firmly believed in Darkshore.

Aessina

One of the most prominent dryads of her time. She excelled at long-range combat with her bow.

Born a twin sister to Ressina, she was the more emotional and outgoing of the two - clearly a favourite among the kaldorei folk. She was the one more against physical violence, and would often overpower even the toughest demons down with her debiliating poison not for her, but for her sisters to finish.

Cenarius would often send her as a leader of a small squad of dryads on rescue missions not long after the Sundering. Aessina would gain trust of the few kaldorei refugees that were mentally wrecked by the recent traumatic event, sometimes to the point of absolute despair.

Ressina

One of the most prominent dryads of her time. She excelled at close-range spellbreaking combat with her blessed spear.

Born a twin sister of Aessina, she was the more calm and cunning of the two - a shady figure to the kaldorei folk, and deviant among her kin. In addition, she showed endless devotion to her father, Cenarius, and would go as far as mercilessly, bloodily butcher the demons that would evade the forest. Sometimes even ten to one, herself, alone.

Cenarius would often send her as a sub-leader of a small squad of dryads under her sister on rescue missions not long after the Sundering. Ressina would valiantly defend the refugees from dangers while escorting them to their new settlements.

The Story of Bashal'Aran and Ameth'Aran

"Ressina's Vigil", the tree that is said to be the dryad's spirit solemnly watching the tides.

The story begins with Cenarius sending Aessina and Ressina together for another rescue mission, this time to the shattered norhern wastes still connected to the new Kalimdor. Whereas the former is enthusiastic as always, the latter complains about the climate there being unhospitable to the frail dryads.

When arriving in what will have become the current-day Darkshore, an owl warned them of a horde of demon survivors fleeing north, which would be more or less where their task is taking place. Thus, given a very limited time, the sisters decided to split into two groups, each led by one of them, and proceed to evacuate Ameth'Aran and Bashal'Aran accordingly. Aessina went for the latter, whereas Ressina headed off for the former.

Ressina has met little resistance over at her field. There was but a fraction of demons that used to remain there before the Sundering, and they were still being actively cut down by stealth attacks of the surviving town guard. With the dryad's help, the foul creatures were executed swiftly. Together, the dryads rallied the survivors and proceeded to head to Ameth'Aran, in order to meet up with the other Dryad and faciliate an escape, possibly to the fabled sanctuary of Moonglade.

Unfortunately, Aessina was not lucky at all. Ameth'Aran was infested by a far greater number of demonic vermin than Bashal'Aran. Survivors were either hiding under the wreckage or being tortured by fel imps and vile satys. The Dryad's forces stormed the ruined gates of the city, cutting down demons with little effort. At first.

No sooner had they broken to the town square when a group of elite satyr spellcasters came forth to help their puny bretheren. A rain of fire came down from the sky, burning many daughters of Cenarius. Aessina herself managed to snipe down about five before engaging in an encounter that would be her last.

A fierce fel-cursed satyr approached the dryad from behind, grabbing her head with a hand wrapped in a twisted dark flame. Aessina screamed in horror as she felt pain literally drilling it's tendrils further into her skull. Leaving her a burnt husk squirming in pain, he proceeded to finish off the remaining protectors of the forests. In a stroke of luck, Ressina, with her squad, arrived.

Ressina's squad, more proficent in battle, took little effort in clearing out the warlocks and their minions. However, the said satyr tried his trick again with the other dryad. He grabbed the daughter of Cenarius and proceeded to burn her just like her twin sister. Laughing maliciously in victory, he felt a sharp pinch on his back, and a sudden lack of air in his lungs. He let Ressina fall down, only slightly burnt thanks to her spellbreaking powers, gasping for a relieving breath. He himself, however, turned around only to see the remains of the dryad grasping her bown in a fire position, and a poisoned arrow sticking out of his chest. In this moment of hesitation, Ressina curely decapitated the satyr and mutiliated his corpse with her spear in wrath.

After the battle had ended and demons were drove out, a messenger owl came with the news that the demonic horde was wiped out by a group of kaldorei sentinels aided by ancient protectors. The Dryads with the survivors headed off to the most hospitable area, Ressina carrying the smoldered corpse of her sister with her. After meeting with another squad of dryads, the refugees decided to rebuild at the shore, and Aessina's corpse was taken back to Ashenvale for a proper burial. Ressina, swearing an oath to her sister, stayed to protect Auberdine with her very life for all eternity.

Today, Ressina's spirit is said to be resting in form of the tree overlooking the waves near the pier - the last act held in her life, always ever vigilant in her neverending oath.
