The Auberdine Council

The Auberdine Council was a ruling body of sorts that consisted of 3 members to serve under Thundris. The process, while technically democratic, was usually influenced by other factors.

Below lies all the notes about the election process as well as the last elections held in Auberdine before the cataclysmic shattering.

Rules

  1. All of those who have lived in Auberdine for two months before the day of the elections are allowed to vote.
  2. One must be 400 years of age at least to vote.
  3. In order to prove that they have been living in Auberdine, they must find three witnesses who are willing to testify for them.
  4. Alternatively, voting rights are also hereditary (only matrilineally)
  5. Voting rights are given to those who have "successfully mated with" (i.e. had children with) one who was eligible for voting rights at the time of birth of the newborn.
  6. All sentinels stationed in Auberdine traditionally receive voting rights regardless of age, time spent in Auberdine or descent.
  7. Various other honorary members of town are often given voting rights which they otherwise wouldn't have had regardless of age, time spent in Auberdine or descent.
  8. A certain body of volunteers and commoners is formed arbitrarily in order to:
    1. Create enough bark chips. Figure out the logistics and create enough. There is always an excess of chips.
    2. Choosing how to distribute the chips in a way that will prevent a huge mess. In the past they have had separate distribution days for men and women and different lines.
    3. Collect the chips into large boxes.
    4. Counting the chips, no less than seven times.
  9. Anyone capable of voting is also eligible to run, but they must:
    1. Bring a member of their line to testify that they are indeed who they claim they are.
    2. Choose a glyph. That will serve as their symbol in the elections. Traditionally, those are different types of plants, animals, weapons or household items. Very often they have to do with the candidate's story, past, background or profession.
    3. They must then wear a purple band over their right wrist to show that they are running.
  10. After counting is done, the 3 top members form the new council with Thundris Windweaver.

The kaldorei of Auberdine also observe the following etiquette:

  • It is considered preferable to vote for a member of one's line.
  • It is considered a virtue to vote.
  • Outsiders are prevented from voicing opinions regarding the elections. The common sign for this is to cover one's ears.
  • It is considered polite to pretend to agree with someone political opinions, even when voicing a different one.
  • Speaking about politics while eating is considered bad taste in Auberdine. Drinks do not count as food.
  • Auberdinians appreciate a good hunter, fisherman or efficient and diligent gatherer.
  • Auberdinians are also notorious for preferring older council members.
  • It's considered a sign of humility (and said to bring great luck) to step down after one term in the council.

Last elections

In the last elections, the winners were Mirieney, Lafianna and Bornas. Below is a list of all the candidates and their views.

Helesa Whitewind

Originally from a line associated with Winterspring. She was elected with the least number of votes on the last election cycle. She is one of the village's "core", having spent most of her life there - she knows everybody (possibly why she was elected). She scores very high on etiquette and politeness.

Some say that she is quite plain and maybe would venture as far as to say dumb, but her supporters say she is simply down to earth. Rumored to be "too close" with the Explorer's League.

Views: Helesa is mildly pro-Horde and believes that Auberdine should ally itself with the Horde once they cease their logging and apologize (this is key to her position).

Her glyph is a cabbage.

Cerar Nightwind

Cerar is the night elf equivalent of bearded Alliance commanders. Though his hardliner no-nonsense approach is appreciated when it comes to most issues, it is agreed upon that he is in fact an extremist. He is with the Cenarion Circle, though a Kaldorei supremacist and a supporter and friend of Staghelm. In fact, quite often he's said to be Staghelm's puppet, to further his constant second guessing of Tyrande and gain some foothold.

To his credit, Cerar has always been a man of principles, and very highly educated. His view is by all means very right-wing, and swings heavily towards (over-)regulation, he makes a point of being clear about what he believes in and makes no secret of his relationship with Staghelm.

There have been some doubts among the people whether Cerar in fact lived in Auberdine long enough to be granted the right to be voted - but being something of a hero, he was allowed in regardless.

As far as scandals go, Cerar was quoted on numerous occasions speaking about "kicking out the pestillence that is the Explorers' League" and is rumored to have once cheated at Ala'shanri with Thundris.

Cerar is clearly not Auberdinian. Little does he know of the proper Auberdine etiquette, which is likely to lose him some voters.

Views: An Alliance supporter, supports Staghelm's cause. Pro-Teldrassil advocate. Zero tolerance justice advocate.

His glyph is a birch.

Ineiss Moonberry

Ineiss' past is mostly a mystery. She generally prefers not to go into great detail. She has no relatives and hardly any business in Auberdine. She always tries to be friendly towards the council and especially strangers.

Some say that she trades "human things" like "straight blades" (probably swords) and "large decorative plates" (possibly shields) and only needs the council to further her goals of increasing her own wealth.

However (few) her supporters agree that she contributes much in terms of material goods. She has a habit, or so it seems, of shelling out gold, pelts and food in large quantities.

Views: Ineiss is pro-free trade. She believes in removing most dock workers (who's votes she is not getting as it is) and believes that the council, and only the council, should police Auberdine with her slogan "order under single guidance"

Her glyph is a coin.

Bornas Stormcrow

Originally from Ashenvale, hunter/tracker by vocation, years of distinguished service in the Alliance army, moved to Auberdine several months ago, where he opened a shop as a leatherworker. Always happy to converse with the people and trade a joke or two. Bornas is polite and calm, never loosing his bearings.

Views: He is very contra-Horde, his views are that the Horde should be removed from Ashenvale and all other Kaldorei lands with any means necessary, force if needed. Bornas' armor impresses many voters, while some others feel his rugged exterior is hiding something.

His glyph is a bow and a footprint.

Mirieney Dreamwing

Mirieney comes origally from Auberdine and raised by her adobtive father Herion Starcaller, but has been travelling the past 4-5 years after the Third War. She recently returned to her hometown and has been granted Sentinel of Auberdine. In recent years she has been slowly rediscovering her past. Many speculations have been raised about Mirieney's past, but she is respected for her deeds. Her grandfather disappeared when the Third War raged and is presumed dead.

The people feel ambivalent. She is younger than usual, but respect sentinels. She has mostly the younger Alliance-leaning vote who is unsure about Cerar.

Her skill with a bow is remarkable - she never misses a target.

Views: Against death knights, opposes the Horde but pro-Tauren. Center-right - war only as a last resort.

Her glyph is an arrow.

Lafianna Moongrace

Lafianna is a fierce woman with firm beliefs (which becomes quite apparent when you discuss things with her for some time).

As a member of the Cenarion Circle she has conducted research on fel corruption in various places and just recently come back from an expedition to Felwood.

In Auberdine she usually helps both the cenarion circle and the sentinels with their daily tasks vigorously. Always happy to lend a hand in Auberdine when she isn't busy helping the Silverwing sentinels fight back the horde.

Views: Lafianna wants the Horde out of Ashenvale as soon as possible. The only horde race she sympathises with being the Tauren due their cenarion membership.

Her glyph is a bear paw.
